Del Barrio is a luxury alcohol brand dedicated to honoring the authentic spirit of Miami. Each of our collections is inspired by a unique neighborhood, capturing the essence of the local culture through carefully crafted liquors. As Miami transforms with the arrival of new residents, we aim to preserve and share the true stories of the locals who make up the soul of this city.

The Task

To craft a visually compelling brand identity for Del Barrio, a luxury alcohol brand celebrating the diverse neighborhoods of Miami. The task involved designing a cohesive visual language that spanned across multiple product collections, each representing a different Miami neighborhood. This included creating premium packaging for each liquor type, such as tequila, vodka, rum, and gin, while also incorporating cultural elements of the local community into each design. The goal was to ensure that each product felt authentic, luxurious, and deeply connected to Miami's local spirit, while also connecting to the brand identity overall.

research/moodboards

My research process involved exploring Miami’s neighborhoods, understanding their cultural and historical significance, and identifying visual themes that resonated with each locale. In order to get local opinions, I conducted a survey and sent it out to over 25 Miami locals (lived in Miami 10+ years). I also analyzed competitor branding in the spirits industry to ensure authenticity and luxury while maintaining a unique, local identity for the brand.

Project development

My sketching process began by brainstorming key visual elements that would represent each neighborhood’s unique culture. I focused on symbols, textures, and color palettes that felt authentic to Miami’s spirit. Initial sketches were rough and exploratory, allowing me to experiment with different ideas before refining the final concepts into cohesive designs. Each iteration helped me visually connect the spirit of the neighborhood to the packaging, ensuring every bottle told its own story while fitting within the larger brand identity

Branding

The branding of Del Barrio seamlessly blends luxury, Hispanic culture, and Miami's vibrant essence. The design incorporates rich textures and elegant typography to evoke sophistication. The storytelling highlights the diversity and heritage of Miami's neighborhoods, celebrating Hispanic roots through authentic imagery, bold colors, and cultural motifs. Each collection reflects the spirit of its locale, from the art deco allure of Miami Beach to the organic charm of Coconut Grove, capturing Miami’s dynamic energy and multicultural identity.
